Why Is A Police Informant Called A Nark

The origins of the word Nark and why police informants are nicknamed Narks

The phrase Nark comes from the Romany word Nak which means nose. A police informer has to be a nosey person and pry into the affairs and goings on of criminals. Hence the slang for a police informer became known as a Nark.
