The Drummer Boy

The Drummer Boy is my latest novel about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.

It is packed with trivia about the Napoleonic War, His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, the history of Tidworth Military Hospital and about modern day nursing and emergency first aid as well as the battlefield medical care during the Battle of Waterloo.

Heat the butter in a large saucepan and once melted add the chopped onion and gently fry for about 10 minutes or until tender and soft.

Add the ground coriander and fry for one minute.

Add the chunks of squash and sweet potato and the hot vegetable stock. If desired add the salt and freshly ground pepper.

Bring to the boil and then gently simmer for 25 minutes or until the chunks of squash and sweet potato are tender.

Allow to slightly cool then add to a food processor to smooth out the mixture.

Pour into a new saucepan.

Stir in the crème fraiche.

Garnish with the fresh chives and serve.
