The phrase originates from Isaac Newton who wrote "If I have seen further it is by standing on
the shoulders of giants", to fellow scientist Robert Hooke in 1676.
The £2 coin was first introduced in 1997. It is the first coin to be made of two metals. The outside is made from
nickel-brass whilst the inside is made from cupro-nickel.
