Alan Shepard was born on the 18th of November 1923 in East Derry, New Hampshire, USA.
He was also the first American in space in 1961, three weeks after Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.

Commander Alan Shepard then returned to space commanding the Apollo 14 lunar landing mission in 1971 where he played his
game of golf on the moon surface.
Alan Shepard died of leukaemia on the 21st July 1998 in California. He was aged 74.
