The Drummer Boy

The Drummer Boy is my latest novel about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.

It is packed with trivia about the Napoleonic War, His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, the history of Tidworth Military Hospital and about modern day nursing and emergency first aid as well as the battlefield medical care during the Battle of Waterloo.

Add 300g of the icing sugar, then the peel, almonds and the walnuts and mix.

Very gently mix in the melted chocolate.

Line with cling film a tin or shallow dish that is about 16cm by 3cm. Pour in the mixture then put in the fridge for about two hours to set.

Melt the rest of the chocolate.

In a saucepan heat the rest of the icing sugar and the water until it becomes syrupy. Add the melted chocolate and mix together.

Take the tin/dish from the fridge, place it upside down over a large plate and peel off the cling film

Spread the chocolate syrup mixture over the cake and chill until the topping sets.

Slice up.
