The Drummer Boy

The Drummer Boy is my latest novel about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.

It is packed with trivia about the Napoleonic War, His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, the history of Tidworth Military Hospital and about modern day nursing and emergency first aid as well as the battlefield medical care during the Battle of Waterloo.

In a large frying pan or in an oven proof casserole dish add the oil, heat it up on the hob and brown the sliced onion and the cubed braising steak.

Add the flour, garlic and paprika and cook for another minute.

Blend in the stock, tomato puree and bring to the boil, stirring continuously.

Add the sliced red pepper and season with salt and pepper

Pour into an oven proof casserole dish, or if already in one then cover and cook in the oven until the beef is lovely and tender. This usually takes 1.5 - 2 hours.

Remove from the oven once cooked and stir in the sour cream.
