The origin of the word Heckler can be traced back to Scotland. The practice of teasing out yarn in the jute
industry was called hekelen which later would be spelt and pronounced heckle.

In later 19th Century Dundee jute workers would interrupt political meetings to get answers from speakers. Such
interruptions became known as heckling or to heckle.
