225g of plain flour
100g of margarine
150mls of milk
90g of soft brown sugar
75g of treacle
75g of golden syrup
1 teaspoon of ground ginger
1 teaspoon of mixed spice
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
2 eggs

In a pan melt the margarine, sugar and the syrup and treacle over a gentle heat.
Add the mixed spice, cinnamon and ground ginger, the milk and the eggs.
Mix the bicarbonate of soda with a little water to form a paste and add this to the pan. Stir
then beat in the flour.
Grease or line with greased proof paper two 1lb loaf tins and then pour in the mixture.
