George Michael was born in East Finchley, London, UK on the 25th June 1963 as Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou. His mother is English and his father is from Cyprus.


The First Band Of George Michael


Whilst at Bushey Meads school George Michael formed a group called The Executive with his best mate Andrew Ridgeley. It was a short lived group, but gave both George and Andrew a taste for singing and performing live.



Wham!


George Michael and his school friend Andrew Ridgeley later formed the pop group Wham! in 1981 and shot to fame with many of their singles and albums such as Fantastic! and Make It Big.

The many hits of Wham include Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, Last Christmas, I'm Your Man, Wham Rap!, Freedom, Young Guns, Bad Boys, Club Tropicana.




When Did Wham! Split

The group Wham! split up in 1986 after producing one last album called The Edge of Heaven. They gave their fans one last memorable concert at Wembley Stadium.


Charity Work Of George Michael

In 1984 George Michael sang in the first Band Aid record, Do They Know It's Christmas.

The profits of his single Last Christmas were donated to the Band Aid charity to help famine relief in Ethiopia.

In 2005 George Michael performed Drive My Car at the Live8 event with Sir Paul McCartney.


Solo Career Of George Michael


In 1984, whilst still with Andrew at Wham! George wrote (with Andrew) and produced his first solo record which was called Careless Whisper. Two years later he wrote his own song and made the single A Different Corner.

After Wham! disbanded George Michael continued to write his own songs and release singles and albums.


Single Hits Of George Michael


George Michael has released many singles over the years which include Jesus To a Child, Flawless, Shoot The Dog, One More Try, Father Figure and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, which was a duet with Sir Elton John.




Albums Of George Michael

George Michael's first solo album was called Faith. It was released in 1988 and sold over 10 million copies and was a number one hit in the UK and the US.

Patience was released in 2004.
