The Drummer Boy

The Drummer Boy is my latest novel about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.

It is packed with trivia about the Napoleonic War, His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, the history of Tidworth Military Hospital and about modern day nursing and emergency first aid as well as the battlefield medical care during the Battle of Waterloo.

Line an 18 x 23 cm baking tin with greased proof paper.

Melt the butter and sugar in a large pan. Add the syrup and the condensed milk.

Remove from the heat and stir in the fruit, but only half the amount of pumpkin and sunflower seeds.

Press the mixture into the baking tray. On top lightly press the remaining seeds.

Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.

Remove and allow to cool.

Cut into bars. This recipe should make 12 generous bars.
