When Were The First Blackpool Illuminations Lights?
The tradition of the annual Blackpool Lights being switched on was started in May 1912.
The Blackpool Promenade was lit up to celebrate a visit by Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Louise.
The event
was such a success that the local council decided to make it a yearly event with different celebrities chosen to switch
on the decorative lights.
