The Drummer Boy

The Drummer Boy is my latest novel about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.

It is packed with trivia about the Napoleonic War, His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, the history of Tidworth Military Hospital and about modern day nursing and emergency first aid as well as the battlefield medical care during the Battle of Waterloo.

Whisk the sugar and the eggs thoroughly.

In a saucepan melt the chocolate and butter. Once melted add the yoghurt and stir.

Stir in the egg and sugar mixture.

Sift the dry ingredients, ie the flour, cocoa, baking powder and spices.

Add the pinch of salt and pepper.

Fold into the chocolate mix.

Pour the mixture into the greased baking tin and bake for about 45 minutes.

Remove from the oven and set aside, still in the tin, for about 15 minutes.

Turn out onto a cake cooling rack and allow to cool before eating or storing.
