The Drummer Boy

The Drummer Boy is my latest novel about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.

It is packed with trivia about the Napoleonic War, His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, the history of Tidworth Military Hospital and about modern day nursing and emergency first aid as well as the battlefield medical care during the Battle of Waterloo.

Break up the 225g of chocolate into a heatproof bowl. Add the diced butter and the double cream. Place this bowl over the boiling water and stir the ingredients together as they melt. Then set aside to cool down.

Break the eggs into another bowl and whisk until they get frothy.

Add the sugar and the Kirsch if you are using this optional ingredient.

Whisk until the mixture thickens and becomes mousse like in appearance.

Now whisk in the chocolate, butter and cream mixture.

Sift in the flour and stir.

Now add the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate pieces.

Pour the mixture into the prepared brownie tin and spread it around so that it is even.

Add the cherry pieces from the jar or can evenly around the mixture.

Bake for about 35 minutes.

Remove the tin from the oven and set aside to cool.

Once the tin and contents have cooled down remove from the tin and cut into about 24 pieces.

Dust with the icing sugar.
